What the heck is a mandarina? Who cares — it’s yummy.

It may be a little premature for ice pop season, but I’m looking forward to those unseasonably hot days when I have easy access to one at the new kid on my Hayes Valley block, Mandarina (535 Octavia St. @ Hayes, 861-8661).
It appears to be just two people, a bunch of fresh fruit and veggies, and a juicer. They are not messing around.
In the meantime I’ll be stopping by daily to fulfill my fruits and veggies requirement. Yes, please, I’ll have a Pineapple/Spinach/Celery/Kale juice or a Banana Papaya Mandarina smoothie (just juice and ice, or add milk, soy, or yogurt). Take it for a walk around Hayes Valley while window shopping, or have a seat in Mandarina’s cute-but-not-precious cafe.

Any season is ice pop season! I don't know how I'd feel about downing a pineapple spinach smoothie...but this Mandarina you speak of just might be able to convince me.
