Yellow Plums!

Walking through Market Place in Skokie the other day, I noticed a pretty little fruit for sale: yellow plums. I bought just one out of curiosity.

At the time of purchase, the smooth skin was mostly plain yellow, but as it ripened over the next two days it attained a lovely coral blush.

What did it taste like? Well…a plum. Though slightly milder than its red and black cousins, it retains all of the juice and a similar texture. The yellow version also doesn’t cling ot the pit, so you can eat the entire thing until you’re left with just a nub. And since it’s vaguely heart-shaped, you now have a new healthy gift to give a sweetheart.
