Le Golosita Italian Trattoria

Written by Maria Tapia on January 5th, 2010 | Comments View Comments

Le Golosita

Located in Henderson a romantic Italian restaurant. It offers outdoor patio, formal dining room with full bar, upstairs a banquet room and a cafe for quick orders. It is very beautiful and the food is good. It’s really a much more romantic and thoughtful choice than Olive Garden. The cafe also offers a full counter of gelato. I would try here again. Le Golosita is nicely tucked into a strip mall so there is plenty of parking. Happy hour is 11am to 6pm offering free pizza and Italian specialties with half price well drinks and half price draft beer. Happy hour Bar X-Press lunch is served in 10 minutes or less.

Donna Maria

Donna Maria

The best tamales in Vegas. That’s a bold statement but Donna Maria’s delivers the goods. I got the Red Pork and Green Chicken. The chicken was spicy just the way I like it. The tamales are available to purchase, by the dozen, ready at a moments notice. They were a great hit at my super bowl party. Located on the strip and in Summerlin.

High Roller Deli and Catering

Written by Maria Tapia on January 5th, 2010 | Comments View Comments

This deli is located right across the street from UNLV in the same strip mall as FedEx Kinkos.

High Roller Deli and Catering

It’s claim to fame is a menu created by Chef “Vic Vegas”, the 2008 Food Network Challenge Catering Champion. It serves various fried appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and pasta dishes. We ordered two sandwiches. The sandwiches are huge. Have you ever wanted to give someone a knuckle sandwich? Here’s your chance. This sandwich contains 2 kinds of Italian salami, pepperoni, ham, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, Italian dressing and mayo served on Garlic Bread. Its rings in at $8.95. Also, ordered was a Club to Da Head for $8.95. A sandwich with triple turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and Mayo on Italian Garlic Toast. The amount of food stuffed inside these sandwiches slathered in Mayo drowned out some of the flavor. When I go back I will try different menu items. There were several intriguing dishes that sparked my interest such as the High Rollaz mozzarella, pepperoni and pesto wrapped in a crispy wonton with marinara and pesto ranch or the Hang Over french toast stuffed with sausage patty, bacon, eggs, ham, cream cheese, american cheese and a hash brown patty. The take out menu states they accept Rebel Card and deliver.

Pad Thai on Rancho

Written by Maria Tapia on January 5th, 2010 | Comments View Comments

Pad Thai always has a big crowd during lunch. They offer $5.95 lunch specials Mon-Fri from 11 AM to 3 PM served with soup of the day, egg roll, steamed rice and a selected choice of 20 different entrees. The vegetables are fresh and the service is quick. Although there are better Thai restaurants in town this one is adequate for the low low price of $5.95.

Brunch at Hash House a Go Go

Written by Maria Tapia on January 5th, 2010 | Comments View Comments

Have you every woken up and wanted to go to a great breakfast spot? Hash House a Go Go is the place if you like a crowd. Its full of hustle and bustle. Billed as “twisted farm food” it delivers a smash hit every time. I have been several times and am always happy with the food and service. The portions are gigantic AND excellent quality, which in itself is a rare find indeed. It has a unique take on all of its dishes and keeps the menu fresh with ever changing specials. Hash House a Go Go offers theme days during which the staff dresses up, plays bumping jams via a DJ on selected days and has an outdoor patio area. Don’t forget the full bar with excellent specialty drinks. The only negative I can find is it can be a little pricey but it’s so so worth it. Don’t forget the portions are so big it will feed you for at least 2 meals. This place is a 10 out of 10!

Walk Out at Texas De Brazil Town Square

Written by Maria Tapia on January 5th, 2010 | Comments View Comments

It started off so well. We made a reservation for a party of 2 at Texas De Brazil, the steakhouse in Town Square, and arrived a little early. Had a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. The bartenders were friendly and swift. The drinks were great.

Then it started to go downhill. 20 minutes came and went after our reservation time and still no page. We checked in again with the hostess and she stated she had paged us 30 minutes ago. We asked her to page it again just to see if our pager was broken. What do you know it worked! If the pager works and we were staring at it the whole time I’m guessing we would have seen it light up.

Anyway, we sat down and the waiter ran over and went through his spiel so quickly it was like listening to auctioneer on fast forward. No introduction or welcome. I understand he was busy but when we asked him to slow down an explain some aspects of the dining again he ran through it again at breakneck speed. My dining partner asked if he could substitute roasted potatoes for mashed potatoes due to a dairy allergy. The waiter said no substitutions.

Needless to say we were annoyed and not eager to spend $45/person on dinner despite being starving. We walked out. I will try this place again. I refuse to let one waiter and an unorganized hostess deter me from eating here. I want some meat!

We did go to an old standby and my favorite place in Town Square Brio Tuscan Grill. We had a great time. The waiter was amazing and suggested a fantastic entree for someone with a dairy allergy. THANK YOU BRIO! Brio saved the night.

DeStefano’s

Written by Johnny Crow on January 5th, 2010 | Comments View Comments

Billing itself as “Old Style Las Vegas Supper Club,” DeStefano’s is not only that but much more. Situated about 4 miles east of the Strip on East Tropicana it is quietly nestled in a strip mall. Though looks may be deceiving from the outside, this restaurant is a great place to take someone you love or even for a nice get together with friends.

Calamari - DeStefano's Las Vegas

We were greeted by a very nice and professional staff. The decor makes you feel at ease and relaxed, as if you weren’t in Vegas anymore. Every night they have live entertainment, including the Wednesday night regular Jimmy “The Dean” Martin Russo with the “Old School Vegas Band.” Great music and singing while you eat.

We started out with the appetizer special, Calamari w/marinara. I have tried many a Calamari and this, I must admit, is one of the better I have ever had. Very fresh, not chewy at all. Light breading and it was mostly small rings and a few of the baby octopus for those (like me) who love them.

Linguini White Clam SauceNext we each had salads, and while the house balsamic vinaigrette was excellent, the salad itself was quite lacking. I would recommend trying the soup.

While we waited we had excellent drinks known as “Italian Iced Tea,” it was strong and crisp, not too sweet and not to sour. The only real problem with it was it’s price tag of $9.50, which I found out after the meal.

Chicken Parmesan

I ordered the special which was Linguine w/white clam sauce and my friend ordered the standard Chicken Parmesan. Both were excellent. You can’t really mess up Chicken Parmesan, but it was great nonetheless. It had a full breast of chicken, thick and juicy. The cheese was cooked perfect and it came with a side of penne.

I must admit that the Linguine w/white clam sauce was one of the best I have ever had. a lot of clams and garlic. It had fresh clams on top and the white sauce that was not too oily or runny as many tend to be.  Had we not had so much food we would have tried the desert (which all sounded excellent). I have to say this is a must visit for anyone, family or friend.

Marssa Lowes Hotel in Lake Las Vegas

Written by Maria Tapia on June 5th, 2009 | Comments View Comments
Marssa is a 4 Diamond Award winning restaurant in Loews Hotel, which was formerly the Hyatt in Lake Las Vegas. A group of us went to support Restaurant Week and test out this award winner. The evening weather was beautiful, not too hot, which was a relief to all.

The Starters were a Sushi Sampler which included hamachi verde, yellowtail, scallion, thai chili lime and temari scallop, spicy scallop wrapped with tuna topped in wasabi caviar. The yellowtail sushi was unique with its spicy sauce and lime slice. I really liked it but in my opinion the Sashimi Trio was where it was at. The offerings for Sashimi were cajun seared albacore and garlic pnzu sauce, togarashi seared tuna yuzu with miso sauce and yellowtail asian pico del gallo. Everything on the sashimi plate was bursting with flavor.

An entree was Opakapaka Lau Lau with coconut ginger cream, kobocha squash and banana chutney. It was served with a twist on the dish fish en papillote by being served in banana leafs. The flavors delivered on their promise of sweet and creamy.

Other entrees were Miso Braised Kobe Short Ribs and Tuna with Mixed Vegetables.

Dessert was an Asian Pear Tart and Chocolate Lava Cake.
