What’s For Lunch?
My roommate and I had OD’ed on Joan’s on Third, and we were looking to add a new boite to our lunchtime roulette. Enter Food+Lab, a cafe and marketplace from the eponymous local mother-son catering company. Though I’ll admit I had qualms about the name (haven’t we seen enough similarly named restaurants in this city?), I was pleasantly surprised by the Food+Lab experience in and of itself. As soon as we entered the storefront, the employees greeted us warmly. They guided me toward ordering the chicken arugala salad, and my roommate the egg salad sandwich. We sat outside on the quaint patio, enjoying every bite of our meals. Although stuffed when we left, we couldn’t resist purchasing some muffin bites to-go from the marketplace. Yum. . .

Recession-Era Soup For The Soul
Just because your wallet’s hurting doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun. In fact, The Edison’s “Depression Soup Kitchen Fridays” may be just what the doctor ordered to cure you of the Recession-era blues. Each guest arriving between 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday evenings gets to enjoy a complementary (and rather tasty, might I add) grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of soup, accompanied by 35-cent cocktail. With the current economic situation, who couldn’t use a gin-based “401(k)” or a “Bourbon Bailout”? OK, so the drinks are pretty much shot-sized at best, but this is the Depression we are talking about. Best of all, 25% of the proceeds go toward local food banks and charities.
